Most people enjoy relaxing out on their patio in the summer, but of course, one addition that makes the experience perfect is to also have a nice cool patio umbrella to sit under temporarily while taking a break from the hot sun, sipping cool drinks.

Patio umbrellas are similar to a normal rain umbrella, except that they are usually going to be larger and thicker. But they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes in reality. In fact, there is such a large range on the market that there is likely to be a patio umbrella that tickles your fancy - whatever it is that you require and prefer and however fussy you are and unusual your tastes!

Regardless of the shape or style of your patio, it shouldn't be too hard to find one that compliments the area. For example, an offset patio umbrella is one where the pole is not in the center of the table. Instead, it is set off to the side. It can be attached to the patio rail or sometimes it has legs to become a freestanding, moveable umbrella. The advantage of this is that it covers more space over head while providing more table space below and the pole won't be right in the middle of the table, getting in the way

A different style of patio umbrella is the market umbrella. It fits into a hole in the center of a table just like the traditional patio umbrella. It is usually made of lighter cloth therefore it is much more portable. These umbrellas can also be use freestanding which is useful if you wanted to shade yourself while lying on a sunbed, for example.

The gazebo umbrella is probably the most adaptable of them all. It normally has a net attachment that keeps bugs away which is particularly handy if you are eating food on the patio table. The gazebo is usually the most popular choice and it can easily be removed and washed in a washing machine.

It's a good idea before purchasing your patio umbrella to take a long look at the patio and try to decide exactly what is going to look right on there. It's important to think about what it will be used for as well as what is going to look best. Once you start perusing umbrellas, try and find one that is likely to withstand prolonged useage, bad weather and the occasional knock!

You may want to buy an umbrella that comes with a protective cover. Or, you may already have a storage space set aside so that you can put the umbrella away when it is not being regularly used. Be sure to know the dimensions of this space when going out to make the purchase, so that you can buy one that will fit in this space.

Something to consider is to check whether the material your umbrella is made from is resistant to fading. If it's going to get a lot of hot sunshine, then this is important as it will obviously extend the life of your new patio umbrella.
